My son loves chanting and Yoga!!! I am so thrilled...
If you ever wondered if yoga would help your child in all ways, but too afraid to try? Afraid of the little one not liking it and pull a tantrum in the middle of a classroom in front of other quiet kids and parents? The thought always passed my mind, even though i am a yoga teacher, kids will be kids and you can't change that...
It was my last kirtan chanting class in MAY and i thought to myself.."wouldn't it be nice to share this experience with my "soon to be 4" son... He does seem to take interest (even just for a moment at home ) when I am practising into my postures and weird positions... (he oftens asks with his innocent tone..mommy what are you doing?) and i gladly respond " Yoga moves, wanna try with me"? Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
So last week as I prepared him quietly and firmly at home into "Mommy has to teach yoga tonight... so you will need to be a good boy and participate, lecture..." I was pleasantly surprised.
I was so surprised that I almost blurted out a gasp as I chanted OM in the beginning only to hear my son's voice so present!!! OH MY GOD, he's doing it!!! I thought to myself, this is amazing , I almost cried for joy... but the best was coming.
After we tuned in to OM , we usually do a warm up exercise for our bodies to relax and open up with a breathing in and out /pumping the chest front and back exercise... and again he was doing it so perfectly!
I realized in that moment that I have been wrong about my thoughts of Yoga for Kids... wrong for judging my own son and being fearful of teaching little boys and girls. I let my "being a mom" ideas get in the way... well i have changed my perception and decided to start teach yoga for kids . That's right. Kids for 4-7 years old and i decided to add music to the class too. Kids love music so why not have both, yoga and music for kids?
I am so excited about this and I owe to my son, Mario for being such a good sport, and opening my eyes and heart again... Stay tuned for YOGA and MUSIC for kids !
